아닙니다 (Not to be) in Korean || Formal
In this post we're going learn to make this kind of sentences in Korean
👇
"It is not (a) noun."
In a formal way using 아닙니다. It is often used in written documents, formal speeches, and polite conversations.
By the way I've used these nouns below to teach the structure of the sentence. I request you to learn these nouns before going ahead.
Word | Pronunciation | Meaning |
---|---|---|
고양이 | goyangi | Cat 🐱 |
집 | jib | House 🏡 |
사과 | sagwa | Apple 🍎 |
물 | mul | Water 💧 |
Written Syntax:
Use these syntaxes while writing.
for nouns ending with a consonant sound:
Noun + 이 아닙니다 (i anibnida) = It is not (a) noun.
Note:
- 이 is a subject particle.
- You don't need to know its meaning.
- Keep space between 이 and 아닙니다.
Examples:
Noun | Copula | Sentence | Pronunciation | Meaning |
---|---|---|---|---|
🏡집 | + 이 아닙니다 (not to be) |
= 집이 아닙니다. | Jib-i anibnida | It's not a house. |
💧물 | = 물이 아닙니다. | Mul-i anibnida | It's not water. |
for nouns ending with a vowel sound:
Noun + 가 아닙니다 (ga anibnida) = It is not (a) noun.
Note:
- 가 is a subject particle too.
- There's no need to know its meaning also.
- Keep space between 가 and 아닙니다.
Examples:
Noun | Copula | Sentence | Pronunciation | Meaning |
---|---|---|---|---|
🐱고양이 | + 가 아닙니다 (not to be) |
= 고양이가 아닙니다. | Goyangi-ga anibnida | It's not a cat. |
🍎사과 | = 사과가 아닙니다. | Sagwa-ga anibnida | It's not an apple. |
Spoken Syntax:
Use this syntax while speaking.
Noun + 아닙니다 (anibnida) = It is not (a) noun.
Note:
- 이/가 is omitted here, making the sentence less formal.
- By the way, there's no problem to use Written Syntax while speaking.
Examples:
Noun | Copula | Sentence | Pronunciation | Meaning |
---|---|---|---|---|
🏡집 | + 아닙니다 (not to be) |
= 집 아닙니다. | Jip anibnida | It's not a house. |
💧물 | = 물 아닙니다. | Mul anibnida | It's not water. | |
🐱고양이 | = 고양이 아닙니다. | Goyangi anibnida | It's not a cat. | |
🍎사과 | = 사과 아닙니다. | Sagwa anibnida | It's not an apple. |
Note:
- Keep a space between a noun and 아닙니다.
Fact:
Did you notice that every noun ending with a consonant had the subject particle starting with a vowel sound, and every noun ending with a vowel had the subject particle starting with a consonant sound. It's like opposite attraction 🧲.
